DAY 195: Parrying punches

Lesson focused on defense against punches today. In particular, we focused on the tap block and the parry. We added a little bit more to the parry today. While parrying against an opponent’s punch, we are to step side ways so that we can counter with a leg kick then followed up by a fury of punches. As usual, we started the class by practicing the moves before going into pad work.

Pad combination 1, 2 rounds:

Jab, jab, cross, left hook, right roundhouse, tap block(against jab), parry and step right (against jab), kick to leg, cross, hook, cross

Conditioning drill, 50 punches, 20 roundhouses, 2 sets.

Pad combination 2, 2 rounds:

Jab, jab, cross, left hook, right roundhouse, tap block(against jab), parry and step left (against cross), kick to leg, cross, roundhouse

Conditioning drill, 50 punches, 20 roundhouses, 2 sets.

The punching combinations were quite easy and has been done many times before so we were able to grasp it quite fast. However, we needed more time in perfecting the angle after the parry so that we can have a more direct hit on the opponent’s leg.

By the end of the lesson, I was drenched. Even my gloves were drenched. This showed that good effort has been put in.

Wet gloves. A sign of hard training. #muaythai
