It’s Fight Training week today! It’s always a torture but always so much fun! We learnt how to counter a jab with a cross simultaneously today. Nothing too fancy but my arms felt like they were gonna drop off after training.
We started class with very intensive warm up. We need to increase the tempo for our shadow boxing and when coach Pal shouts “BURST!” we have to give 10 jab crosses. After that we did 20 slow push ups and 10 clap push ups. 20 squats and 10 tuck jumps. We then go into learning the technique. We spent about 15min learning the combination and after that, we hit the focus mitts.
Combination:
Catch block (jab), catch black (jab), counter cross, hook, cross, duck under (left hook), cross, hook.
Simple combination but we did this continuously for 4X 3min rounds. And during the round when coach Pal shouts “BURST!”, we have to do jab, cross, left hook, right hook, left upper cut, right upper cut in under 1 sec.
After each round, we are to do jab, cross, left hook, right hook, left upper cut, right upper cut 30 times.
After the pad work, we move on to shin conditioning. The drill is very simple. One guy kicks with a right roundhouse the other guy shin blocks and counters with a skip, left roundhouse. Before the left roundhouse connects, the partner have to do a push kick to push the opponent off balance.
After that we did more shin conditioning by kicking each other’s shins. We were told only to use about 10-30% of our strength but it already hurts like hell. There were a few times i need to stop because it was excruciating.
Extremely tiring session but SHIOK!
